Thesea horse is called Hippocampus, a Greek word meaning "horsemonster." It belongs to the family Syngnathidea, which alsoincludes the pipe fish and the sea dragon (Phycodurus eques). Althoughfor years its exact classification was in doubt, it is definitely afish---meaning, a vertebrate. This is an evolutionary leap from the phylum mollusca,which includes Sepia officinalis, Calcarea carbonica, and Murex Purpera.There are over 32 species of the sea horse. Hippocampus kuda is found along theeastern coast of India andin the waters surrounding all of Indonesiaup into the Sea of Japan. It is a favorite ofaquarium owners and exotic-fish enthusiasts.Atfirst sight, the sea horse seems ill adapted to its underwater environment.Lacking the torpedo shape of most fish, it floats vertically in the water,being propelled almost imperceptibly by two pectoral fins on either side of itshead and one small dorsal fin. The sea horse's vertical posture is an exceptionwithin the animal kingdom. The head is at a right angle to the body, and the majororgans (the gills, heart and liver) lie just behind the head. The rather long,toothless, tubular snout gives it its characteristic horse appearance. Unlikethe typical fish, the sea horse is covered with a bony armor rather thanscales. While lacking powerful fins, it is endowed with a long prehensile tailwhich, monkey-like, it wraps around just about anything. This makes for arather passive, secretive existence; the sea horse hides from predators withinthe sea grasses and coral, and waits for its prey--usually rotifers and brineshrimp--which it sucks up with a clicking noise. Thesea horse is an amusing amalgam of incommensurable parts-a horse's head,dragon's scales, the free-roving eyes and changeable colors of a chameleon,tail of a monkey, a kangaroo's pouch, the armor of an insect, and the wings ofa hummingbird-yet the fact remains that it is simply a fishSeahorses are not social creatures, as they do not swim in vast schools like manyof the fish of the sea. The male sea horse leads a solitary existence. He laysclaim to a small patch of sea-bed grass, attaching himself with his tail, andstays there, day in and day out. However, unlike other sea creatures, seahorses do form attachments with their mates. The only social interlude in an otherwisesolitary day is when the male's partner arrives for her morning visit, whichhappens like clockwork. She hooks her tail around an adjacent blade of grassand gently sways by his side. They seem to be the most devoted of partners.When a male and a female meet sexually, they engage in a ballet-like dance ofcourtship that can last for hours. Then a very strange thing happens: thefemale inserts her eggs into an enclosed pouch on the male's abdomen, and themale, usually anchored to one spot for the entire duration, fertilizes andincubates the brood. During this period, the female takes care of the pregnantmale, visiting him daily during what appears to be intimate moments as the pairtenderly nuzzle each other. The sea horse, like the octopus and cuttlefish, hasthe ability to change color and texture in order to camouflage its whereabouts,but during courtship and while the male is carrying, the mates always"brighten" when they meet. After sometimes as long as six weeks, the male goesinto what is clearly labor. Hundreds of baby sea horses are thrust out into thewater, but very few survive to adulthood. A pregnant male is indeed an oddity--as if an absolute law ofnature had been reversed, as if a great taboo had been transgressed.Nevertheless, this peculiarity of the sea horse has contributed to many mythsand legends, and myths and legends eventually inspire deeds. The Chinese inparticular have valued the sea horse medicinally for thousands of years as acure for almost everything, from asthma and heart disease to that seeming baneof male existence, impotence. One reason sea horse is used as an aphrodisiac isthat the Chinese believe these creatures form pairs for life, and thereforefeel sexually fulfilled. Apparently, they use as many as 20 million sea horsesa year. Seahorse trade is legal and unregulated, and if this practice continuesat this rate, we could push this amazing creature into extinction. To this end,conservation projects that have been set up in recent years, establish sanctuariesand fish farms in order to ensure the continued existence of these mysteriousand fragile creatures of the sea.

Cloves is said to be aphrodisiac.  

Melaleuca Alternifolia

Tea tree oil is extracted from Melaleuca alternifolia of the Myrtaceae familyand is also known as ti-tree, ti-trol and melasol. This oil must be one of themost used essential oils, and thousands of people swear by its wonderful healingproperties. It is one of the most powerful immune system stimulants and sortsout most viral, bacterial and fungal infections.

Nigella Sativa - The seed of Blessing

An annual herbaceous plant, black cumin seed (botanical name is nigella satival.), or black seed forshort, is believed to be indigenous to the Mediterranean region but has beencultivated into otherparts of the world including the Arabian peninsula, northern Africa and partsof Asia.

Tiny and hairy, being no more than 3mm in length, black seed originates fromthe common fennel flower plant (nigella sativa) of the buttercup(Ranunculaceae) family. Theplant has finely divided foliage and pale bluish purple or white flowers. Theflowers grow terminally on its branches while the leaves grow opposite eachother in pairs, on either side of the stem. Its lower leaves are small andpetioled, and the upper leaves are long (6-10cm). The stalk of the plantreaches a height of twelve to eighteen inches as its fruit, the black seed,matures. Nigella sativa is bisexual and forms a fruit capsule, which consistsof many white triagonal seeds. Once the fruit capsule has matured, it opens upand the seeds contained within are exposed to the air, becoming black in color(black seeds). Nigellasativa and its black seed are known by other names, varying between places.Some call it black caraway, habbat al barakah and habbat sawda , Others call itblack cumin (kalounji), onion seeds or even coriander seeds. In English, thenigella sativa plant is commonly referred to as black cumin. Nevertheless, thisis nigella sativa, which has been known and used from ancient times and is alsoknown in Persian as Shonaiz. 

Theearliest written reference to black seed is found in the book of Isaiah in theold-testament, Isaiah contrasts the reaping of black cumin with wheat: for theblack cumin is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is a cart wheel rolledover the cumin, but the black cumin is beaten out with a stick, and the cuminwith a rod. (Isaiah 28:25,27 nkjv).

Easton's bible dictionary clarifies that the Hebrew word for black cumin,ketsah, refers to without doubt the nigella sativa, a small annual of the orderRanunculaceae which grows wild in the dioscoredes, a Greek physician of the 1stcentury, recorded that black seeds were taken to treat headaches, nasalcongestion, toothache, and intestinal worms. They were also used, he reported,as a diuretic to promote menstruation and increase milk production.

The Muslim scholar al-biruni (973-1048), who composed a treatise on the earlyorigins of Indian and Chinese drugs, mentions that the black seed is a kind ofgrain called alwanak in the sigzi dialect, later, this was confirmed by suharbakht who explained it to be habb-i-sajzi (viz. sigzi grains). This referenceto black seed as grains points to the seed's possible nutritional use duringthe tenth and eleventh centuries, in the Greco Arab/Unani Tibb system ofmedicine, which originated from Hippocrates, his contemporary galen and IbnSina. Black seed has been regarded as a valuable remedy in hepatic anddigestive disorders and has been described as a stimulant in a variety ofconditions.

Ibn Sina (980-1037), most famous for his volumes called the canon of medicine,regarded by many as the most famous book in the history of medicine, east orwest, refers to black seed as the seed that stimulates the body's energy andhelps recovery from fatigue or dispiritedness. Black seed is also included inthe list of natural drugs of al-Tibb al-n abawi, and, according to tradition,"hold onto the use of the black seed for in it is healing for allillnesses except death" (Sahih Bukhari vol 7 bk 71 #592).

This prophetic reference in describing black seed, as having a healing for allillnesses is not exaggerated as it at first appears. Recent research hasprovided evidence that most illnesses arise because of an imbalanced ordysfunctional immune system, which cannot perform its primary function ofdefending the body optimally. Research also indicates that black seed containsan ability to significantly boost the human immune system.

 Ashwaganda 

 A member of the nightshade family,ashwagandha is native to India,and Africa but is now grown in the US. It is often touted as theIndian version of ginseng because ,like ginseng, ashwagandha is revered as anon-specific tonic, an adaptgen that is used alone or as an ingredient incompounds designed to target a variety of conditions. Traditional Ayurvedicphysicians prescribe the root as an all purpose tonic, in the treatment oftumors, inflammation, arthritis and a variety of infectious diseases. The plantacts as a mild sedative, an anti-inflammatory and a libido booster. Thechemically active ingredients in ashwagandha, withanolides, appear to have asteroid like effect, meaning that they indirectly increase activity of steroidalhormones like testosterone and progesterone. Because of testosterone's effecton sex drive, this could be what is behind ashwagandha's purported aphrodisiaceffects . Ashwagandha also relaxes blood vessels and stimulates circulation.Researchers speculate the anti-anxiety action of ashwagandha stems fromsomething in the herb that mimics gamma-amino-butytric acid (GABA), a naturallyoccuring substance in the brain whose role is to decrease the effect of stimulithat reach the brain. It calms an exhausted feeling ofdepression, tones the whole body and stimulates the glandular system, thuseasing period pains.SummaryCinnamon oil's benefit lies in its toning and calming effect onthe respiratory tract, the nervous system, and in the easing of colds andinfluenza, as well as period pains.It also calms the digestive system and helps with rheumatism andarthritis. Although traditionally used for clearing warts, it is notrecommended to be used in skin care products.

• Burners and vaporizers
  • In vapor therapy, cinnamon oil can be used in acute bronchitis and colds, as well as sneezing and to help lift depression and a feeling of weakness.
• Blended oil or in the bath
  • Cinnamon oil can be used in blended massage oil, or diluted in the bath, to assist with bronchitis, diarrhea, chills, infections, flu, rheumatism and arthritis. Due to its very powerful antiseptic properties it is good for fighting any infectious diseases. It furthermore has great value in calming spasms of the digestive tract, nausea and vomiting. RosmarinusOfficinalis

Such was thefolklore surrounding Rosemary that it was said to be the herb of lovers, offidelity, of remembrance, of strong men and strong women, to preserve andpurify, as well as protection from disease. Rosemary is listed in many MateriaMedica's and herbals. Externally it can be made into massage oil for relaxingmuscles.

More recently its essential aromatic oils have stimulated much interest asanti-oxidants and Rosmarinic acid has been found to have anti-inflammatoryproperties inhibiting inflammatory chemicals produced in the Arachidonic acidpathway. A flavonoid, Diosmin, is stated to be a better tonic for capillariesthan rutin. Rosmarinic acid is said to be around 4 times more active as ananti-oxidant than Pycnogenol, which is about 100 times more active than VitaminC and E. Taken as a medicine the extract is a circulatory stimulant and tonicto both the heart and blood vessels. It is beneficial to the nerves byincreasing the circulation.  The most important constituentsof rosemary are caffeic acid and its derivatives such as rosmarinic acid. Thesecompounds have antioxidant effect. Rosmarinic acid is well absorbed from gastrointestinaltract and from the skin. It increases the production of prostaglandin E2 andreduces the production of leukotriene B4 in human polymorphonuclear leucocytes,and inhibits the complement system. It is concluded that rosemary and itsconstituents especially caffeic acid derivatives such as rosmarinic acid have atherapeutic potential in treatment of poor sperm motility.
